Are you an Overgeneralizer?

Are you an overgeneralizer?

“I didn’t do well on those lifts so I will never do well on those lifts”

Overgeneralization is making broad interpretations from a single or few events.

“I’ve tried to lose weight multiple times and I didn’t lose weight, so I will never lose weight.”

“I ate a few too many Oreos and the scale shot up, so I can never eat Oreos without gaining weight.”

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold those 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎!

Just because something happens one time, or even a few times. Does NOT mean it’s going to continue to happen forever.

It’s like being bitten by a puppy once and then assuming all dogs are going to bite you for the rest of your life. While it can feel that way, and you can ruminate that thought in your head all day long, it’s not reality.

So, try running again, try a new nutrition plan, go for that clean and jerk, or try a new coach *cough cough* because even if you have had negative experiences before, it does NOT mean it will always be the same in the end.

Don’t let a couple negative experiences ruin an entire area of possibilities!
